Played over 250 senior games in Canterbury and Otago club rugby, predominately for the University of Canterbury.
A goal kicking First 5, held the points scoring record for most points in a season. Played NPC for Mid Canterbury and have represented Canterbury at A, B and Colts level, Otago at B level and played for NZ Universities. Played Serie A Rugby for Piacenza in Italy and as a player/coach for Gwernyfed RFC in Wales.
After retiring from senior rugby in 1999 I coached the Burnside senior team in 2000 and the University of Canterbury team 2001-2 in the Christchurch Metro Club competition reaching the semi finals on two occasions. I also took the University team to Japan in 2001 to play exhibition games against Kobe Steel and other Japanese professional teams. A variety of All Blacks and NZ Underage players have played under my direction namely, Leon MacDonald, Caleb Ralph, Mark Robinson, Greg Feek, Steve Surridge, Dallas Seymour, Tii Paulo, Rico Gear and Andrew Ellis. I hold an NZRU advanced coaching certificate (IRB level 3) and in 2005 I coached the South Canterbury Provincial Under 16 team in the South Island regional tournament and in 2006 South Canterbury provincial Under 20.
I have been a qualified referee since 2005 with profound knowledge of the laws of the game.
